Helsinki Hotels
The Finnish city of Helsinki was chosen as the capital of Finland because of its strategic location along trade routes and as a strategic location in case of an attack. The Fortress of Suomenlinna, or Castle of Finland, is a popular tourist attraction and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are many other interesting sites to visit on a trip to Helsinki. For those who enjoy both nature and history, the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum is a small village full of preserved buildings that is set in a scenic location outside of the city. There are many other museums in the area including the Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki City Museum, and the National Museum of Finland. One unusual site is the Rock Church, which was built into a rock and, because of the amazing acoustics, is often used to host concerts. A great example of Russian Orthodox architecture is the Uspenski Cathedral, built in the mid-19th century. Other religious sites include Tuomiokirkko, a Lutheran Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Henry and the Mikael Agricola Church. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, visitors to Helsinki can relax at one of the many discount hotels in the area.
